How to set up and use Bluetooth on the Nokia N97 mini

Setting up and using Bluetooth on the Nokia N97 minii

The Bluetooth functionality of the Nokia N97 mini enables you to communicate wirelessly with other Bluetooth compatible devices such as mobile phones, PCs, headsets, car kits and wireless speakers.

Bluetooth enables you to send and receive files, such as music, images, video, documents and so on, transferring data wirelessly over a range of 10 metres. You don't have to line up the devices - if they're in close proximity, they can communicate with each other.

Setting up and using Bluetooth on the Nokia N97 mini is easy. Here's how...

How to turn on and use Bluetooth

  1. To get to the Connectivity menus quickly, press and hold the top right of the display until a pop up box appears. Press the box with the parallel lines.
  2. Alternatively, press the N97 mini's Menu button (below the display, to the left). In the main menu, press Settings.
  3. In the Settings menu, press Connectivity twice.
  4. In the Connectivity menu, press Bluetooth twice.
  5. The first time you use Bluetooth, you will be prompted to name the phone. This is so when others detect your phone, the name is displayed. You can either use the default name - Nokia N97 mini -  or you can type in an original name using the keyboard or press the panel and use the onscreen soft numberpad (if using the numberpad, press the green tick button on top left of the  to screen when you've typed in your name).
  6. Once you're happy with the name, press OK to continue. (The name can be changed in the Bluetooth settings if you want to amend it later.)
  7. You are taken into the Bluetooth menu. To turn on Bluetooth, press the Bluetooth panel.
  8. The panel changes from Off to On. You can now use Bluetooth on the phone.

You can decide whether or not you want your phone to be found by other Bluetooth-enabled devices within range.

  • Press the My Phone's Visibility panel twice to see the options available:Shown to all (any Bluetooth device within range can detect it); Set Visibility Period (where it remains visible only for a limited set period, perhaps while you pair it with another device or want to receive a file via Bluetooth); and Hidden (where no device can detect it) (Step 9). Press the option you want to set for your phone's visibility. Whichever setting you choose, it doesn't prevent you from detecting other Bluetooth-enabled devices within range of your phone.
  • If you choose Visibility Period, you can vary the time it remains visible by dragging a timeline across the display with your finger. Press OK to return to the Bluetooth menu (Step 10).

How to send files via Bluetooth

Once your Bluetooth is on, you can send files - including music, images, documents and video clips - to other Bluetooth-enabled devices.

  1. Select the application from which you want to send a file, such as the Photos gallery. Press the appropriate folders onscreen until you have highlighted the file you want to send. Press Options.
  2. Press Send.
  3. Press Via Bluetooth.
  4. The phone searches for nearby visible Bluetooth-enabled devices and displays a list of them onscreen. Press the one you want to send to.
  5. Once the recipient device has accepted the Bluetooth file transfer, the file is sent. A message birefly appears to confirm this and then you're returned to the content screen.

How to pair with another Bluetooth device
